Joyce Jolley Pippin

Hello, my name is Joyce Jolley Pippin and my students call me Ms. JJ. I graduated from the University of Houston’s Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management in 1996 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management and a minor in Art History. I had an opportunity to study art history abroad in Florence, Italy through the University of Florida. I have been fortunate to travel and discover diverse cultures.

I was born in Pocatello, Idaho, lived in Spokane, Washington until I started kindergarten in Houston, Texas. Recently, I relocated to the Austin area from The Woodlands, Texas. I am married to an amazingly talented custom home builder, who works for a prestigious architectural design builder here in Austin. We met while working for a prominent catering company in Houston in the late 90’s, when we were both in the hospitality industry. Shortly there after, we moved to historic Marshall, Michigan where we were married in ’99. Ashton was born in 2001 and in 2003, my second son, Brandt joined the family. I then decided to be a stay at home mom so I could enjoy the development of our young boys. I returned to the hospitality industry when we moved back to Texas in 2005. It did not take long for me to realize that my heart was working with children. Ashton relocated with us and is employed as an engineer with a local resort. Brandt moved to Houston after graduating high school and is working for a distinguished fine dining restaurant.

After many years in the hospitality industry it became time to transfer my supervisory skill set to children. I was trained in early education with the Piaget theory of child development which advocates the four different stages of mental development. Piaget believes that children take an active role in the learning process, acting much like little scientists as they perform experiments, make observations and learn about the world. As children interact with the world around them, they continually add new knowledge, build upon existing knowledge and adapt previously held ideas to accommodate new information. I have 9 years experience educating toddlers and preschoolers at an established preschool in Spring, Texas. I truly enjoy the gratification in teaching the developmental skills to young learners. It is a blessing to witness emerging language and social skills.

It is great exploring the hill country and Lake Travis and all that it has to offer. When I am not nurturing  young minds, I enjoy family time, walking, swimming and playing with our dog Piper. We are enthusiastic about this next chapter in our journey. I am delighted to be joining the talented team of Lupine Lane.
