Katelyn Mahoney

Hello! My name is Katie, and I’m originally from Millington, New Jersey. I developed an interest in education and working with kids from an early age. Growing up, my mom taught kindergarten at my K-8 school, and I enjoyed stopping by her classroom and reading stories to her students. In high school, I worked as a babysitter and a nanny, and volunteered at an after-school YMCA program for special needs kids.

I attended Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island, where I majored in English and minored in education. During my senior year, I participated in the university’s tutoring and mentoring program, which allowed me to have an internship as a middle school teaching assistant. I had the opportunity to work with students from a variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, and spent much of my time in the classroom offering support to students learning English as a second language.

After graduating Salve in May of 2020 during the pandemic lockdown, I spent time working as a private tutor in New Jersey. I offered support to a mom trying to navigate homeschool/virtual school with her three kids, ages 9, 5 and 3. I turned a challenge into a positive learning experience, both for the kids and for me! I learned so much about educational technology, and found that I preferred working with the early childhood age group.

In December of 2020, I relocated to Texas with my parents and sister, and became a part of the Rough Hollow community. I’m so thrilled to join the Lupine Lane family, and look forward to making many happy memories in the classroom and out in the Texas sunshine.

In my free time, I enjoy gardening, cooking, running, spending time with my family and going for walks with my poodle, Daisy.
