Hello all!
Last week, we implemented a work-shopping period into some of the Absolutely Art classes, where the kids displayed their project and the other students volunteered something nice to say. I really enjoyed this, and I think the kids did as well. This process will help the children to understand a bit more about how to review art and create a stronger community within the classroom!
I feel so fortunate to have heard all of the wonderful, hilarious and often incredibly intelligent words that come from your kids. I have to say, some of the things that come out of their mouths are absolutely priceless, and there are so many times I wish I could share with everyone! So, I am going to add “The Things They Say” at the end of the blog and include an especially memorable quote from a student. Check it out at the end of the post!
Lil’ Absolutely Art and Absolutely Art
This week in Lil’ Absolutely Art and Absolutely Art we’ll be making sand castles using sand clay! We’ll talk about different parts of a castle, like the main building, the keep, the bailey, the porticullis, and the ramparts. Then, we’ll also paint a watercolor Father’s Day card for Dad! We’ll discuss a bit about how to properly use watercolors. The term “watercolor” is actually instructive. The pigments are used to color the water, and the artist uses that colored water (or watercolor) to paint a picture.
Lil’ Kinder Cooks and Kinder Cooks
In Lil’ Kinder Cooks and Kinder Cooks, we’ll be hand-cranking spinach pasta, then toss it with home-made butter and Parmasean cheese. Then, we’ll use a turkey hot dog to create an octopus to sit on top of our seaweed pasta! We’ll also decorate a cookie for Dad for Father’s Day!
Lil’ Music Makers and Music Makers
In Lil’ Music Makers and Music Makers, we’ll be working on rhythm with resting beats using “Rags,” “Six Little Ducks” and “Ti-de-o.” Then, we’ll work on more instrument recognition using “Down in the Valley.” We’ll also review some other songs that we’ve already done for some repetition to encourage the children to commit some of the lessons and songs to memory.
Fun With Photography
In Fun With Photography, we’ll be heading outdoors! We’ll be working with natural objects to concentrate on focus in close ups and composition. Then, we will head back inside to put the photos into Photoshop and add some fun affects that will highlight the natural objects.
