The Week of August 3rd at Lupine Lane

Can you believe it’s August already!? This month we’ll be using the poetry of Shel Silverstein as inspiration for our projects!

I wanted to mention that we have a bunch of new fun toys for Family and Friends Playtime at Clay Madsen. Some folks were so kind and donated their gently used toys, which we really appreciate. If you or anyone you know has any toys they’ve grown out of, please let us know! We also have some brand new puppets and large cars to play with! Come along and bring a friend or two! The more the merrier!

Absolutely Art and Lil’ Absolutely Art
This week we’ll read “Complainin’ Jack” from Silerverstein’s Falling Up and make a Jack in the Box of our own! Children will be painting a wooden box and then make a little puppet that will be able to pop out of their creation!

Kinder Cooks and Lil’ Kinder Cooks
We’ll read “The Monkey,” also from Silverstein’s Falling Up, and we’ll be making our very own banana creme pies! Children will learn how to make a pie crust, filling and meringue!

Lil’ Music Makers and Music Makers
We’ll start off with our usual greeting songs, introducing new students to our songs and motions. Next, we’ll focus on rhythm this month a bit more. We’re going to expand on the 4/4 and 3/4 rhythms that we’ve learned using the Copy Cat Rhythm Game. We’ll use several visual aides to help children grasp different rhythms, then we’ll use “I am a Fine Musician” to practice both rhythm and instrument recognition. We’ll also work on the concept of tempo with a new song called “Wiggy Wiggy Wiggles!”

Fun With Photography
Is it daytime or night time? Well, of course class is in the middle of the afternoon, but we’ll use a backdrop and lights to make it look as though it’s nighttime. Then, we’ll use Photoshop to make it appear as though the stars are shining brightly above us!
